Embracing a Fulfilling Life After Retirement

You spend years working day in and day out, raising a family, taking care of home and health, and now you get to retire. You worked your way to the top, and now you’re entering the world of irrelevance. Welcome to retirement...

If you have separation anxiety, don't worry -- it will pass and life will feel good again. It’s nice to sleep late and wake up with nothing to do. I easily got all the things I wanted to do around the house done. Even knocked out a few bucket list trips. Then, back to no impending responsibilities.

But the brain still needs to be fed after retirement. That doesn’t mean going back to work, it just means occupying your time with something to do. So what to do, maybe a hobby? Fishing, kayaking, camping, hunting, golf, drinking, traveling, part-time work?  Yes to all the aforementioned and many other hobbies.

To each his own hobby. I recommend you get one, or you’ll find yourself quickly deteriorating into old age. The challenge is to balance things you would like to do with the cost. Not only are some hobbies expensive, but you now have more days to fill in with things to do.

Filling your days with hobbies that cost money can quickly deplete the bank account, so you can’t just spend your time filling it in with hobbies that cost an arm and a leg. That old saying comes to mind, “When you have the money, you don’t have the time; when you have the time, you don’t have the money.” Most of us can’t just spend money on hobbies five to seven days a week.

The solution, mix it up, a mishmash of activities. Find a hobby, take a cruise, enjoy some time with family, and also find some type of casual fulfillment. Meet up with like minded people for morning coffee at the gas station or a nice premium cigar shop. Find a place where retirees meet every day for coffee (or whatever) and solving all the world’s problems.

The secret to balancing your time after retirement? Who knows!

If you’re looking to resolve that dilemma, come hang out with us at Bailey's Cigar Room.

We’ll have a premium cigar and figure it out together.
