Sean McCloskey Reviews Bailey's Bespoke Cigar

Carencro, Louisiana. Cajun country, home of pop/soul artist Marc Broussard, and where you'll find Bailey's Cigar Room. The only place where you can get their bespoke cigar that's made by Artista. This one is really interesting and I'm excited to try it today. Many shops will get a manufacturer's unbanded cigar and have their label put on it. Jaime and Gary visited the Artista factory in the DR and were given the opportunity to get something unique. After trying half a dozen different blends, this is the one they landed on after a year and a half process.

The wrapper is San Andres and the binder African Cameroon, while the filler is a blend of Corojo Viso, Colombian, Connecticut Broadleaf, and Artista's proprietary hybrid T13. I haven't encountered another cigar with a blend like this yet.

The San Andrés wrapper always gives a slightly rustic look. Defined veins, good mottling, always toothy and a little lumpy with a nice reddish brown color. The seams are nice and tight. I find both San Andrés and Cameroon to be "crunchy" and a little more fragile so there's not a lot of give and I wouldn't squeeze tight for fear of splitting the cigar, but that's not an indicator it's dry. The HumidiMeter read 62% before lighting it up.

The cold smell is sweet, mild cocoa and earthy. Lit, it's earthy, that chocolate flavor is malty and you get that nutty, peanut shell flavor. There's mild spice this picks up throughout the smoke. No one flavor dominates and it's well balanced. It's an enjoyable smoke and very affordable.

The draw was fantastic, construction is on point. I find San Andrés cigars to always burn a little unevenly and this one did too. It took a couple touch-ups to even the burn out, but nothing major. I still have 4 more in the reserves to see how they do and I fully expect to buy more in the future. The ash was nice and bright white/light gray, with lots of little oil crystals in it. The ash liked to feather, so I wasn't going for a big stack today.

I mean everybody here has already bought this cigar and I'm the last one to try it, right? . If not, pick up the phone and give Gary Cruice a call. You can get it in Corona, Robusto and Toro vitolas. He can ship to you as long as you're in Louisiana. Definitely get yourself some of these to try out.
