It was 2010 when the Women's Canadian Ice Hockey team beat the USA to win Olympic Gold, then went back on the ice to celebrate with premium cigars and beer! The Summer Olympic Games began in Paris this week. That got us to thinking about premium tobacco, athletes, and competition. Almost every cigar enthusiast can name an athlete who also smokes premium tobacco. A Google search (when things are working) provides multiple articles. Did you know, though, that there are premium tobacco smoking competitions?
When it comes to premium tobacco, we tend to break into two general camps - cigar smokers and pipe smokers. Many enthusiasts smoke both forms of premium tobacco, but they are different experiences. This may be why each has its own smoking championship!
Bailey's was recently notified that United Pipe Clubs of America is looking for a few folks to round out the World Cup of Pipe Smoking in Poznan, Poland this October. This event is hosted by CIPC (Committee, International of Pipe Clubs). The CIPC was originally founded in Saint-Claude, France. It establishes and enforces uniform rules for international pipe smoking competitions, and helps organize such competitions. Y'all should check them out!
Premium cigar smokers aren't left out of premium tobacco competitions! In 2010 Marko Bilic organised the first Cigar Smoking World Championship, held in Split, Coratia. This year's Finals will be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It may seem like competing in such exotic places is beyond reach for the typical premium cigar enthusiast, but it really is as easy as entering a competition. Of course, you then have to win!
No matter how you enjoy your premium tobacco, you are welcome at Bailey's! Even though, most premium tobacco smoking competitions focus on slowness or long ashes, we judge neither speed nor length here. Please consider Bailey's Cigar Room your premium tobacco smoking safe space!
